Rotary Youth Leadership Awards

Do you have what it takes to become a dynamic leader and change yourself and the world?

Rotary Youth Leadership Awards (RYLA) is an intensive leadership experience organized by Rotary clubs and districts where you develop your skills as a leader while having fun and making connections.

What are the benefits?

Connect with leaders in your community and around the world to:

  • Build communication and problem-solving skills
  • Discover strategies for becoming a dynamic leader in your school or community
  • Learn from community leaders, inspirational speakers, and peer mentors
  • Unlock your potential to turn motivation into action
  • Have fun and form lasting friendships

What’s involved?

RYLA events are organized locally by Rotary clubs and districts for participants ages 14-30. Depending on community needs, RYLA may take the form of a one-day seminar, a three-day retreat, or a weeklong camp. Typically, events last 3-10 days and include presentations, activities, and workshops covering a variety of topics.

Your community might host a RYLA event for secondary school students to hone their leadership potential, for university students to develop creative problem-solving strategies, or for young professionals to learn ethical business practices.

How can I participate?

RYLA participants are nominated by local Rotary clubs. Contact your local Rotary club to find out more about RYLA events in your area, how to apply, and any costs of getting involved.

RYLA District 9800 facilitates a program for 18 to 28 year olds who live, work, study, volunteer or have a connection with a Rotary Club in District 9800.

We encourage applications from Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples, the LGBTIQ community, and people from culturally diverse backgrounds.

How Do I Apply?
You can apply to be a participant for RYLA through our website which will take you to an online application form.

You can use any device to complete the application form, however we suggest using a computer or tablet over a smart phone.

Once completed, this form will be assessed by the RYLA Committee and passed onto our Program Directors. Participants will be contacted by both the committee and Co-Directors to let them know if their application was successful and to discuss further details around preparing for the program.

Sponsorship

We encourage all applicants to contact their local Rotary Club. If you have been in contact with a Rotary Club, there is provision in the application form to detail this information.

Who we are at Rotary Malvern

The Rotary Club of Malvern has been operating in Stonnington for over 60 years.
We have established relationships with local community groups, charities, service providers and businesses, which helps us identify where we can be most effective in giving our professional expertise and volunteer service to improve the lives of others.
Our club regularly participates in local events including Stonnington Pets in the Park, Very Special Kids Family Day, Environmental tree planting days and special charity events and fundraising activities.
We help support a number of local, domestic and international organisations and projects by hands on volunteering or by fundraising. Some of these include:-
- Avalon - a "homeless" project based in Malvern
- The Malvern Emergency Food program - where "packs" of food are located at the Malvern and Prahran Police Stations for those struggling to purchase food
- Mental Health Packs - we provide basic items for those being admitted to several of the mental health units in hospitals across Melbourne
- End Polio Program
- Shelterbox - an organisation that provides items to help survivors of famine, war, earthquakes etc
- Koala Kids - members deliver items to Childrens cancer wards across Melbourne and directly to families with a child with cancer

Members are able to nominate which activities they wish to volunteer for depending on their interests, availability and expertise.
